News-Arct* | 28 October 1891 | "The Australian Star", Sydney, NSW, Australia; Wagga Wagga, Wednesday. Among the persons here who contracted influenza were Mr. Henry Baylis, police magistrate, and Mr. L. A. Fosbery, district coroner. The latter was very ill, but is now recovering. Serious cases of illness from influenza occurred in the Deniliquin district, and a number of deaths occurred. It is estimated that one-third of the population in that district is affected by the malady. The following persons succumbed to the disease: — Mrs. Ettershank, Mrs. Devlin, Mr. W. Uphill, and Mr. Asa Pearse, aged 78. The whole family of Mr. C. Uphill suffered from the malady at one time, and diphtheria also broke out and attacked some persons in the household. All the shearers engaged at Mr. Uphill's place were also sufferers from the malady. Mrs. Pearse, widow of Mr. Asa Pearse, has since died, over 70 years of age. Several deaths from influenza occurred last week in the Jerilderie district. Among those who died were James Innes, of Widgiewi, aged 19, and Miss O'Mahony, at Putck Widgee Station. Many persons residing at Jerilderie are prostrated.;Principal=Charles Uphill5 |
