Mr. Joshua Whiley, sen., an old and respected resident, expired on Thursday afternoon, at the ripe age of 73 years, from paralysis. The deceased gentleman was a farmer and a native of Licolnshire [sic], and arrived in the colony 34 years ago. He took a deep interest in stock breeding, in fact he brought with him from the old country a draught stallion, whose progeny figured prominently here as prize takers. The deceased gentleman leaves a grown up family of five sons and two daughters. The funeral, which was conducted by Mr. R. C. Miller, of Millthorpe, took place on Friday afternoon, and was largely attended, the Rev. F. Colwell officiating.9 |
