DEATH.
On Thursday night there died at the residence of her daughter (Mrs Bell) one of the oldest residents of this district in the person of Sophia Buckley, widow of Mr George Buckley, formerly of Maitland. Mrs Buckley was a native of Parramatta, Sydney and had attained the ripe age of 80 years. She resided at Maitland about 10 years ago and five years later removed to Waratah and had resided in the locality over since. She was the mother of ten children but only one son and two daughters survive her. She had been a widow for 31 years and had reared four families of grandchildren, who had been deprived of their mothers. There are now living 40 grandchildren and 36 great-grandchildren. Deceased was a most industrious and devoted mother and was highly respected by all who know her. She always enjoyed the best of health and suffered but little from sickness until lately. The remains were interred in Sandgate Cemetery on Saturday afternoon, the funeral being largely attended.;Principal=Sophia Gower5

Mr John Buckley, an old identity of Lambton, died at his residence, Durham-road, on Wednesday. He was in his 79th year and was born in Parramatta. He had lived in Lambton for over 50 years. In his younger days he was regarded as a good cricketer and up to within a few weeks of his death, was an enthusiastic follower of the game. He was also one of the oldest members of the Grand United Order of Oddfellows, Waratah Lodge. He leaves one son and two daughters. His wife predeceased him 44 years. The funeral took place yesterday, the interment being in the Church of England Cemetery, Sandgate, the Rev M
Garbett officiating. The pall-bearers were Messrs J Meek, W Bedford, N Leybourne and T Long.6
