News-Arct* | 12 August 1898 | "The Albury Banner and Wodonga Express", Albury, NSW, Australia; Death of an Old Resident of Wodonga.—Another of our oldest residents- though oldest only in the sense of her lengthy residence amongst us, for she was comparatively young in years—passed away quietly on Wednesday morning in the person of Mrs. Bassett, wife of Mr. John Bassett, of Wodonga. The deceased lady was 42 years of age at the time of her death, and, excepting the first year or so of her infancy, the whole of her life was spent in the town. She was the daughter of the late Mr. Geo. Loomes, who in the early days carried on business as a wheelwright in Wodonga, and she was a sister of Mrs. E. Dibley. For the past year Mrs. Bassett suffered acutely from an internal complaint, which medical skill proved unable to combat, and for weeks past her condition was hopeless. She gradually sank, and finally breathed her last at 3 a.m. on Wednesday. Mrs. Bassett, who was of a some what retiring disposition, was highly esteemed by all who knew her. She leaves five children, for whom and for the bereaved husband the deepest sympathy is felt on every hand.4 |
