News-Arct* | 21 August 1947 | "The Lachlander", Condobolin, NSW, Australia; FAREWELL SOCIAL Presentations to Mrs. Foy Bassett Whilst Mrs. F. C. Bassett was visiting Condobolin for a few days at the week-end, prior to settling at Strathfield, the opportunity was taken of bidding her farewell. Members of the Church of England Ladies Guild and the Ambulance Auxiliary assembled at the Rectory after Church on Sunday night. On the arrival of the guest of honour she was presented with a very pretty shoulder spray, and music was enjoyed until supper time. Rev. Barratt then mentioned that the Church and the Ambulance Auxiliary had combined to give this little farewell gathering to Mrs. Bassett, who had been a very staunch worker for these two bodies, and they were very sorry to be losing her. Such people as Mrs. Bassett are very hard to replace. Mrs Ken Willis mentioned how much Mrs Bassett would be missed and wished her everything of the very best for the future. Mrs H. Clemson endorsed the previous remarks. She had known Mrs. Bassett a long time and had worked with her both in the Ambulance, and the Guild and she wished Mrs Bassett had been remaining to assist with the Flower Show next month. They were very sorry to lose her and she trusted Mrs Bassett would be happy In her Sydney home. Superintendent Lawler was pleased to have the opportunity of expressing to Mrs Bassett the appreciation of the Ambulance Committee for the work that the Auxiliary had performed with Mrs Bassett as president. At the time when the Ambulance were sorely in need of help, Mrs Bassett had given her services and undertook to be the first president of the Auxiliary. During the three years with Mrs Bassett as president, the Auxiliary had done wonderful work. The Ladies had given the Service its second ambulance waggon when it was badly needed, and he could say just how much the Committee appreciated all the help of the Auxiliary. In conclusion he wished Mrs Bassett all the best in the future. Miss Eileen Cooney added a few, words of appreciation of the services of Mrs Bassett. She had had the opportunity of knowing the great amount of work Mrs. Bassett had done for the Auxiliary, and a lot of it had been done in such a quiet way that everyone's attention would not be drawn to just how much work Mrs Bassett really did. She was sorry Mrs Bassett was leaving Condobolin and wished her all the happiness possible, and good health in Sydney. Mr. Raffin spoke on behalf of the Ambulance Committee and emphasised the splendid work done by Mrs. Bassett during the initial movement of the Ambulance, in Condobolin. He could endorse all the previous speakers had said and on behalf of the Committee expressed appreciation of the work done by both Mr and Mrs Bassett and wished, them every happiness and joy in the future. Mrs. Barratt then, presented to Mrs. Bassett a very pretty dish, on behalf of the members of the Church of England Ladies Guild in appreciation of her services, together with good wishes for the future. Mrs. Raffin the newly elected president of the Auxiliary, spoke of how much that organisation would miss Mrs Bassett and all the work she did Mrs. Raffin felt sure she would not be able to do half the work Mrs. Bassett had done in her capacity of president. She had pleasure in presenting to Mrs Bassett a lovely navy handbag, as a small token of appreciation from the members of the Auxiliary and a memento of her assocations with them. Mrs Bassett briefly responded, thanking everyone very much indeed for the beautiful gifts and the nice things said of her. She was sure that anyone else would have done just as much as she had done and concluded by thanking them once again. The singing of "For She's A Jolly Good Fellow" brought a happy evening to a close. 10 |
