Death* | 3 May 1905 | Mount Gambier, SA, Australia; OBITUARY. DEATH OF AN OLD COLONIST.—Mr. John Williams, the eldest brother of Mr. W. Williams, of the Mount Gambier Foundry, and of the late Mr. Thos. Williams, of Moorak, died in the Mount Gambier Hospital on Wednesday. The deceased, who had been a blacksmith in the North, came to Mount Gambier about four months ago to be treated by Dr. Johnson at the Hospital for eye-blight. Whilst there other complications set in, one of which was peritonitis, against which his constitution could not contend, and he died on Wednesday. The deceased was the eldest son of the late Mr. Llewellyn and Mrs Margaret Williams, of Yahl, and was born in South Wales 72 years ago. He came to Australia by the ship Charlotte Jane in 1852, and was thus a colonist of 53 years. Nearly all that time he followed the business of blacksmith. He was an industrious, steady man, and was highly respected in every place where he was known. He leaves a widow and a family of five sons. The funeral was held on Thursday, the Ven. Archdeacon Young officiating. Mr. H. R. Jobling was undertaker.9,10 |
