Obituary22 February 1919 "The Nepean Times", Penrith, NSW, Australia;
DEATH OF MRS. A. PURCELL.
There passed away on Wednesday of last week, another of our old and highly respected district residents, viz., Mrs. Annie Purcell, of Charlesville, Castlereagh.
The late Mrs. Purcell was born in Sydney, being a daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. J. Farmer, who came from Ireland. She was 85 years of age at the time of her death. Up to about a month before Christmas she enjoyed good health, and was a wonderfully strong woman for her age. On Christmas Day deceased had a paralytic stroke but improved slightly; she again grew worse, however, and died as stated above.
In 1851 deceased was married to the late Mr. John Purcell (who died 25 years ago last August), in St. Nicholas' Church, Penrith, by the late Father Brennan. She then went to reside at Charlesville, Castlereagh, where she remained up to the time of her death. There were ten children, seven of whom are alive: Mrs. Anderson (Sydney), Mrs. Flannery (Sydney), Mrs. J. McCarthy (Cranebrook), Miss Purcell (Castlereagh), Messrs. O. W., and J. J. Purcell (Castlereagh), and Mr. A. Purcell (Victoria). There are also 23 grandchildren and 18 great grand-children.
Deceased was much attached to her church (St. Nicholas', Penrith), and was always to be found in her place, wet or dry. She was of a most charitable disposition, and will be missed in many ways. Rev. Father Ryan visited her constantly during her illness.
The funeral, on Thursday of last week, was a large and representative one, the interment taking place in the R.C. cemetery at Cranebrook. A number of beautiful wreaths were received. Rev. Father Ryan conducted the service at the graveside, and Mrs. John Price and Son were the funeral directors.3
