DEATH OF MRS. HANNAH BURKE.
The death of Mrs. Hannah Burke, wife of Mr. William Burke, of Steinbrook, Tenterfield, occurred at her residence on Thursday morning, at the age of 71 years. Death was due to heart trouble, from which she had been suffering for some time, and followed immediately upon an acute attack. The deceased lady was born in Manchester, England, of Irish parents, and came to Australia with two elder sisters as a child. At Carcoar she married Mr. William Burke, 54 years ago, and shortly afterwards settled in Tenterfield, where she had resided ever since. She was a prominent and devout Catholic, and was always ready to assist in Church or charitable movements; while her friendly and sympathetic nature endeared her to all. Besides 65 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren, the following members of her family are left to mourn their loss; Mesdames Agnes Woodworth (Bonalbo), Jane Gallagher (Glen Innes), Mary Drennert (Sydney), Margaret McShane (Tamworth), Catherine Burrows (Newcastle), Mr. John E. Burke (Steinbrook), Mrs. Norah Delaney (Sydney), Mrs. Hannah Kelly (Scrub) Mrs. Emma Stephens (Brewarrina), and Mr. William Burke (Steinbrook). The remains were taken to St. Mary's Church, Tenterfield, where the prayers were read by Rev. Father J. T. Clancy. The funeral moved from the church, followed by a large concourse of relatives and friends. Father Clancy officiated at the graveside. Mass for the repose of the deceased lady's soul was celebrated at St. Mary's on the Sunday following death. — R.I.P.5
