DEATH OF THE REV. D. RUTLEDGE.
At St. Stephen's Rectory, Sutton Forest, yesterday afternoon, died the Rev. David Rutledge, M.A., M.B., Ch.M., at the , age of 53. He was the son of the late Mr. James Rutledge, formerly of Sydney, and was born in Queensland. His brothers are the Rev. W. WooIls Rutledge, of Sydney, and Sir Arthur Rutledge, who was Attorney-General in a recent Queensland Ministry.
Educated at the Sydney Grammar School, Dr. Rutledge, after taking his B.A. and M.A. degrees at Sydney University, entered the Church of England, and was ordained by Dr. Tyrrell, Bishop of Newcastle. He had successive charge of the Scone, Wilcannia, and Warren parishes, and he subsequently qualified for the medical profession, being one of the first seven students to enter the medical school in connection with the University, and the only one to pass the first final examination. He practised at his profession for a while, and then re-entered the Church.
It was while incumbent of St. Stephen's, Mittagong. that he wrote, "Christ, the Anti-Christ, and the Millennium". He proceeded to England for the purpose of having the book published, and on his return was appointed to Sutton Forest, where he resided till his death.
The deceased leaves a widow and ten children.
