The Late Mr G. Oldfield
A FINE OLD PIONEER.
George Edward Oldfield died on August 4. In the good old days, when Cobb and Co. ran coaches in many districts in the west, George's father was a driver from Nyngan to Bourke. At the age of 15 George took up the reins and drove his four in hand for about eight years. He married Miss Lynch, the daughter of a well-known Nyngan auctioneer, and resided at Gilgandra. From that township he went to Mebul, Yamble, and Gulgong. For 27 years he and his wife resided near Gulgong, rearing a family of three sons and seven daughters. About a year ago Mr. Oldfield became unwell and, although he consulted specialists in Sydney nothing could be done. He was laid to rest in the Church of England portion of the Gulgong Cemetery on Monday, the Rev. C. J. Allen officiating at the graveside. The Digger Prince Mine was closed on that day as a tribute of respect.— Gulgong ''Advertiser.";Principal=George Edward Oldfield2
