DEATH OF MR. JOHN LEES.
Mr. John Lees, a very old resident of Broken Hill, died yesterday (Wednesday) at his residence in Wolfram street. The deceased, who was 74 years of age, arrived in Broken Hill in 1886. In the early days he was interested in the hotel business, and he built the first Tattersall's Hotel, the Wilcannia Club Hotel, and the Criterion Hotel. He was licensee of these and other hotels. He was also at one time greatly interested in the mining industry and in racing. He was a committeeman of the L.V.R.C., and was the only surviving member of the original trustees of the Broken Hill racecourse. He leaves a widow, three sons (Messrs. J. T., E. R., and W. A. Lees) and one daughter, Mrs. P. K. Conroy. The funeral will leave the family residence this afternoon, at 4.15 o'clock.5
