Death of Mother | 1 February 1900 | New Lambton, NSW, Australia; NEW LAMBTON. DEATH. On Thursday night there died at the residence of her daughter (Mrs Bell) one of the oldest residents of this district in the person of Sophia Buckley, widow of Mr George Buckley, formerly of Maitland. Mrs Buckley was a native of Parramatta, Sydney and had attained the ripe age of 80 years. She resided at Maitland about 10 years ago and five years later removed to Waratah and had resided in the locality over since. She was the mother of ten children but only one son and two daughters survive her. She had been a widow for 31 years and had reared four families of grandchildren, who had been deprived of their mothers. There are now living 40 grandchildren and 36 great-grandchildren. Deceased was a most industrious and devoted mother and was highly respected by all who know her. She always enjoyed the best of health and suffered but little from sickness until lately. The remains were interred in Sandgate Cemetery on Saturday afternoon, the funeral being largely attended.;Principal=Sophia Gower4 |

A very old and respected resident of the town, Mrs Kedwell, widow of the late Mr Alfred Kedwell, died at her residence, West-steeet, this morning after an illness extending over twelve months. The deceased was a native of Parramatta, where she was born 62 years ago, and for the past 47 years has resided in Maitland. She leaves a family of four sons, ten daughters, 39 grand children and 6 great grand children. The funeral is announced to take place to-morrow morning at 10 o'clock.5 |
