News-Arct*9 February 1850 "The Adelaide Observer", Adelaide, SA, Australia;
The Coroner held an inquest on Wednesday the 5th instant, at the house of George Hockey, known as the "Woodehouse Arms," situated near Islington, on the body of James Buckley, aged 44 years. Edwin Buckley, son of the deceased, stated, that on Monday last, he was with his father on the road near Gepp's house. The deceased was driving a dray, with two horses, towards Gawler Town. He had just been drinking some milk procured by witness at a road-side cottage, when the horses started. The deceased leaped off the dray, but the wheel caught his coat, and he fell under the near wheel, which passed over the left side of his head. He never spoke afterward. Two men ran up and removed the deceased to the house where the inquest was held. Richard Park, sworn, stated, that he ran to the spot where the accident occurred, and perceived, that the skull of the deceased was fractured, and the brains protruded. There was a great quantity of blood on the ground. The horses ran very rapidly for about quarter of a mile, when they were with difficulty stopped. The deceased only breathed twice after he (witness) came to the spot. Verdict, “Accidental Death."3
