MAN ELECTROCUTED
The first onslaught of the Parkes storm lasted 20 minutes. After a break of 10 minutes, it struck again, causing further damage to buildings and uprooting trees.
Severely shocked from an electric wire while doing repair work to telephone wires outside 2PK radio station, Harold Thomas Bassett (36), P.M.G.'s Department employee at Parkes, died later in Parkes District Hospital.
It Is believed that the telephone wires Bassett was handling were electrified by a fallen wire.
He was standing in a pool of mud at the time.
The aerial mast belonging to 2PK, and standing on the edge of town, was blown down. The station
was off the air until Sunday.5
