Death.
We have to record the death of Mr Joseph Strickland, one of the best known men in this, the Orange and Forbes districts, which took place at his residence, Bogan Street, on Sunday evening, after a long and painful illness. The deceased, who was 57 years of age, was born at Cadow and at one time owned the "Moonbeam" Station, on the Lachlan, near Condobolin. Some 25 years ago he had the coach service between Orange and Molong, and later that of Parkes—Peak Hill, which he held till shortly before his serious illness. For nearly 20 years the late Mr Strickland was handicapper for the Parkes, Forbes, Orange and Condobolin Jockey Clubs. He was a thorough good judge of a horse, and had judged the thoroughbreds in the local show ring. Deceased was a favorite with the travelling public, being reliable and straightforward, as well as most genial and obliging. He was married twice and leaves a widow and five children by his second wife. The funeral took place on Monday morning, the Venerable Archdeacon Neild officiating at the grave.7,8
