MRS. ALICE STOKES.
A member of the pioneering family of Whiley, in the Spring Hill district, a resident of Orange for half-a-century, Mrs. Alice Stokes died at the Base Hospital on Monday, at the age of 79 years. She married the late Mr. Walter Stokes, who died about seven years ago, at Spring Hill, and when they came to settle in Orange her husband worked at Wright Heaton and Co. for several years. A devoted mother and a fine character, Mrs. Stokes won lasting friendships, particularly in Moulder Street, where she resided for the whole of her life in Orange. She had been in failing health for some time, and had been a patient at the Base Hospital for about six weeks. She is survived by four sons, Charles, Alfred and Augustus (Orange), George (Parkes), and four daughters, Elizabeth (Mrs. Eslick, Orange) Annie (Mrs. Martin, Orange), Ada (Mrs. Horspool, Orange), and Amy (Mrs. Powter, Parkes). One son, Walter, and one daughter, Mrs. Barney Weekes, predeceased her. Her funeral will leave her late residence at 11 o'clock this morning for the Methodist portion of the Orange cemetery.;Principal=Alice Whiley3
