Marriage*18 March 1914 Christ Church, Warracknabeal, VIC, Australia;
WEDDINGS.
NEWELL—HOLLAND.
A very pretty wedding was celebrated in Christ Church, Warracknabeal, on Wednesday, 18th March, at 4 p.m., when Mr. A. Newell and Miss E. F. Holland were united in the bonds of matrimony. The vicar of Christ Church, the Rev. F. W. Coupe, performed the ceremony, and was assisted by the Rev. J. G. Pollard. The church was beautifully decorated by two lady friends of the bride, and represented snowflakes. At the time appointed, the bridegroom, with groomsmen, and the bridesmaids, proceeded to the chancel steps, and there awaited the entrance of the bride, who followed soon afterwards, accompanied by her little page boy and trainbearers. The procession up the aisle was very effective. The service commenced with the singing of the hymn, "The voice that breathed o'er Eden." The marriage service was devotionally rendered throughout, and Miss Dorothy Stephen acted efficiently as organist. At the close of the first part of the service the hymn, "Lord, Who at Cana's Wedding Feast," was sung. The bride was given away by her father, and wore a gown of white satin charmeuse over glace silk, the dress being richly trimmed with real Brussels lace, the skirt beautifully draped and caught with orange blossom. The long train hung from the waist was caught in at the bottom of the skirt with pearls and orange blossoms. She carried a shower bouquet of white orchids, chrysanthemums, and asparagus. This, with a lovely veil worked by a girl friend in Ballarat, completed a handsome toilet. Miss Hilda Holland, sister of bride, wore a gown of beautiful shell pink silk mousseline, the bodice draped on left side with rich honiton lace; also draped skirt with panel of lace fastened with tiny spray of pink roses and forget-me-nots, and finished with pearl trimming. She wore a mob cap of silk arafane, and carried a handsome bouquet of pale pink tiger lillies and asparagus fern, and wore ruby and pearl ear drops, the gift of bridegroom. Miss Ethel Wyllie, cousin of bridegroom, was attired the same as the first bridesmaid, and carried a handsome bouquet and wore bridegroom's gift, a bracelet set with emeralds and pearls. Miss Ivy Holland, sister of bride, and Miss Ada Beilby, trainbearers, had long satin dresses, trimmed with lace and satin ribbon, and wore bridegroom's gifts. Southern Cross brooches set with rubies and emeralds. Little Ernie. Holland, brother of bride, acted as page, wearing a cream satin suit, smartly made and trimmed with braid and buttons. He also wore a satin hat with quill and buttons, and carried a cream satin horse shoe, finished with lillies of valley and ribbon.
Instead of the prescribed declaration of the duties of man and wife at the end of the service, the vicar gave a short, instructive address to the newly married couple, basing his remarks on Proverbs, xxxi., verses 10 and 11. After the benediction the bridal party left the church to the strains of the "Wedding March."
After the service the large party assembled at the Melba Hall, where a sumptuous breakfast was partaken of, the Rev. F. W. Coupe presiding. The toast" of "The King," proposed by the chairman, was enthusiastically responded to, and a verse of the "National Anthem" sung. The toast of the "Bride and Bridegroom" was proposed by Mr. Ingleton, in well chosen words, and was supported by Mr. A. Heath and Mr. Vaughan. The joyous singing of "They are jolly good fellow," which followed the toast, showed that the bridal couple had the best wishes of the large company assembled to do them honor. The Rev. F. W. Coupe also spoke to this toast. "The Bridesmaids" was proposed by the chairman; "Parents of Bride and Bridegroom," by Mr. J. B. Kelly, who was ably supported in his remarks by Mr. R. H. Stainthorpe, Mr. J. Craig, and Mr. D. Powell. Mr. Craig then proposed the toast of "The Chairman," which was unanimously responded to. After the banquet the hall was cleared and the floor prepared for dancing, which proceeded on into the early hours of the morning.
The bridal couple left by motor car for Murtoa on their honeymoon trip. The bride's travelling dress was a becoming costume of royal blue silk poplin, with hat of tango velvet and silk rose, and wore a white feather boa.
The mother of the bride wore a charming gown of black silk and rich applique trimming, and skirt slightly draped with buttons; toque to match of silk velvet, and feathers relieved with purple. The mother of the bridegroom looked smart in black pailette silk, richly trimmed, and wore hat of black satin and feathers.
