DEATHS.
MR. A. KERSHAW.
Mr. Abraham Kershaw, a resident of Lacmalac for many years standing, took ill on Sunday, 22nd inst., but as no indication of the sickness approaching had been felt by him previously it was at first thought that a couple of days' rest would bring about a satisfactory result. On following Wednesday, however, he appeared to be no better, and his wife prevailed upon him to come to town to consult Dr. Mason, who had previously attended him for a weakness of the heart, which he had been addicted to for past eight years, but not to any extent indicating danger. The man, as a matter of fact, looked exceedingly healthy and strong. The doctor prescribed for the patient, and he returned home again; but the illness seemed to get more severe, and on following Saturday Dr. Mason attended Mr Kershaw at his residence, but only to find that the affection of the heart had become so intensified that any hope of averting a fatal termination was groundless. No doubt the unfortunate fellow, after receiving medical attention, became nervous, which militated against the good effects that medicine given to him should have had. He expired on the following day, leaving a sorrowing widow and a family of six children (the youngest being 10 years old) to mourn their loss. We extend to them sincere sympathy over their bereavement. The late Mr. Kershaw was a good and kind husband and father, and was a hardworking and honest man. The funeral took place on Wednesday last, when, dispite the fact that it was a miserably wet and cold day, there was a very large attendance, thus evincing respect in which deceased was held. Mr. Bimsworth acted as undertaker; and, in the absence of Rev. Owens-Mell, who is away in Sydney, Mr. S. Groves, licensed lay reader, read the Church of England burial service.
