News-Arct* | 2 December 1948 | "The Lachlander", Condobolin, NSW, Australia; PARTY FOR KITTY JONES A very enjoyable evening was spent at the R.S.L. Hall last Tuesday night when friends of Miss Kitty Jones assembled to entertain her prior to her marriage. Dancing and novelties were the order of the evening, whilst at intervals, items were rendered by the Misses May Floyd, Fay Chapman and Mr. Kevin Brady. At approximately 11.30 a delightful supper was served by the girls, after which followed the speeches. Mr. Kevin Brady, acting as chairman. said Kitty's esteem was obviously very high, judging by the number of friends present. He concluded by wishing the guest of honour and her fiance, Bruce, all the best for their future happiness. Mr. Don Munro had much pleasure in endorsing Mr. Brady's remarks. He said he had known Kitty ail her life and knew that Bruce was a lucky fellow. In wishing them health and prosperity he expressed the hope that they would come back to see their friends in the not too distant future. Mr. Max Jones: was then called on to say a few words, and he too wished Kitty and her fiance all the best. Miss Jean Munro, on behalf of friends, presented Kitty with the gifts, assuring her that every best wish went with them. Kitty responded briefly, thanking them all for the happy evening and lovely gifts, at the same time expressing the hope that she would be able to come back to Condobolin to renew friendships. This jolly party came to an end at 12 o'clock when the young folk sang "For She's a Jolly Good Fellow" and "Auld Lang Syne."10 |

News-Arct* | 13 January 1949 | "The Lachlander", Condobolin, NSW, Australia; BASSETT-JONES Kitty, daughter of Mr. and Mrs Ivan Jones, of Condobolin, chose 4th December, 1948, for her marriage to Mr. Clement Bruce Bassett, son of Mr. and Mrs. F. C. Bassett, now of Strathfield, and former residents of Condobolin. Friends of the bride had attractively decorated All Saint’s Church of England for the ceremony, which took place at 2.30 p.m., and Miss Maude Forlonge was the organiste. Beautifully embossed white taffeta made the lovely bridal gown. This featured a classical fitted bodice with lace yoke outlined by a frill and beading. The long sleeves were shaped to a point at the wrists. The bodice formed a peak onto a gathered gored skirt, an unusual feature of which was the beautifully shaped peplum, falling from the hipline, accentuated by a spray of frangipani on each side; and the skirt itself falling into a very long exquisite train. A bouquet of November lillies, gardenias and frangipani was carried by the bride, who was given away by her father. The Misses Jean Munro and Edna Bassett were the two attendants and they wore pretty frocks of pink and blue lace respectively. The fitted bodices, with square neckline, were peaked into a full flared skirt. They wore matching lace mittens and Juliet caps encircled with flowers. Pink carnations and blue delpiniums formed the bouquets which they carried. Duties of best man were carried out by Mr. Albert Bassett, brother of the groom, whilst the bride’s brother, Mr. Harold Jones, was the groomsman. Seventy-five guests assembled at the R.S.L. Hall for the reception. They were received by Mrs. Jones, assisted by Mrs. Bassett. The bride’s mother chose a brown crepe ensemble with beige hat and matching accessories, whilst Mrs. Bassett wore navy crepe with matching accessories. They both had shoulder sprays of roses. The usual toasts were honoured and many congratulatory telegrams read, under the guidance of the chairman, Mr. Reader. The Beautiful wedding cake was three tiered and was made and decorated by Larkings Bakery. The gifts received by the young couple were numerous and costly. The gifts of both the bride and groom to each other were gold wristlet watches; to bridesmaid Jean Munro gold earrings set with ruby stones, and to Edna Bassett a double string of pearls. When leaving for their honeymoon which was spent on the South Coast, the bride chose a teal green crepe frock with white hat and tan and white accessories. Mr. and Mrs. Bruce Bassett are making their future home at Penshurst, Sydney.;Principal=Clement Bruce Bassett12 |
