WEDDING
GADD - SPENCE
The wedding was celebrated at the Presbyterian Church, Hay, on Saturday, 22nd May, of Dorothy Jean Spence, only daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. M. Spence, of Orson Street, Hay, and Meryyn Gadd, youngest son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Gadd, of The Glen, Walwa district, Victoria.
The church was beautifully decorated for the occasion by Mrs. R. B. Mateer. The Rev. H. D. Mackie officiated, and Mr. A. C. Welsh, acted as organist. As the bride entered the church on her father's arm the choir sang “The Voice That Breathed O'er Eden,” and at the conclusion of the ceremony, rendered “The Lord Bless Thee and Keep Thee.” While the register was being signed Mrs. G. Walker sang most effectively “I'll Walk Beside You.”
The bride was attired in an off white silk lace gown over taffeta of the same shade, with silk net embroidered veil. She was attended by Miss Marie Dunn as bridesmaid, who was frocked in pale green marquesette over taffeta, head dress of green tulle.
Mr. Clement Gadd, brother of the bridegroom, was best man.
After the ceremony the bride's parents entertained about 50 guests in St. Andrew's Hall, the Rev. H. D. Mackie presiding. The usual toasts were enthusiastically honoured, amongst, them being that of the “Royal Australian Navy,” which was responded to by Sub. Lieut. A. J. Spence (brother of the bride).
At the conclusion of the function Mr. and Mrs. Gadd left en route to Warburton, Victoria, where the honeymoon will be spent. Their future home will be at The Glen.
Included in many congratulatory messages received by the couple were over 30 telegrams, a number of them being from Matong and Darlington Point friends, at which places the bride had been teaching at the respective schools.
