OBITUARY.
MR. GEORGE WHILEY.
The death occurred in an Orange private hospital, on Sunday, of Mr. George Whiley, a well-known Forest Reefs farmer, at the age of 73 years. Mr. Whiley, who was born at Spring Hill, where his parents were amongst the earliest settlers, had resided in the Millthorpe district all his life, and his many fine qualities won for him the esteem of the whole community. A son of a farmer, and keenly interested in the land, he associated himself in his earlier days with any movement that had the betterment of country conditions as its objective. He was one of the original competitors in the Millthorpe ploughing matches, which were the forerunners of the Show Society. As a ploughman Mr. Whiley was recognised as a champion, and on one occasion he won the blue riband of the State in competition against the best in New South Wales. For many years he combined chaff-cutting with farming, but failing health forced him to withdraw from contracting for such work. A family of three sons and seven daughters survive. The sons are Messrs. George (Millthorpe) and Ernest and Augustus Whiley (Lower Forest), and Mesdames W. Lowe (Blayney), A. Eve (Millthorpe), Bailey (Forest Reefs) and Misses Amy, Thelma, Hilda and Ada Whiley (Forest Reefs) are daughters. Mrs. Whiley died suddenly on Boxing Day, 1922, following on the death of a son two days previously. Mrs. W. Stokes (Orange) and Mrs. F. A. Collins (Sydney) are sisters of the deceased. The funeral took place on Monday, and the cortege was one of the largest seen in the Millthorpe district for many years. At the Church of England cemetery, Millthorpe, a great number paid their last tribute to one who had won their admiration in life. The service at the graveside was conducted by the Rev. E. J. Allen.;Principal=George Whiley4
