A Sad Accident.
A Condobolin correspondent writes: —A peculiar and painful accident took place in the main street on Tuesday.
A man named Thomas Hannon, aged about 60, who had been shearing at Borambil, was riding a horse in front of an hotel, when a young married man, Ernest Whiley, whose wife gave birth to a child that morning, was seized with a spirit of frolic. He vaulted on to the horse behind Hannon, whereupon the animal bucked and threw the two men off, and then lashed out, kicking them both. Whiley was not seriously injured but Hannon was kicked in the face and was dangerously hurt. The two local doctors attended and pronounced Hannon to be suffering from concussion of the brain. He was taken to the Hospital, where he now lies in a precarious condition.

Death of E. Whiley
We take the following from the Melbourne "Herald" of the 28th March:
The death occurred in Melbourne yesterday of the Flemington trainer, E. Whiley, aged 68. Whiley was associated with Ike Fouisham in Sydney as a jockey before transferring to Melbourne to register as V.R.C. jockey in 1904. His most notable success as a trainer was with Kunjolio and Wooloo, who finished first and second in the Grand National Steeplechase at Flemington in 1923. Whiley had his most recent successes with the grey steeplechaser, Inasuma.
Many of the old hands of Condobolin will remember Ernest Edward Whiley, best known as 'Bung' Whiley, for he was born in the district and resided here many years. He was brother to Charles and Mrs. John Bright, both well-known residents of Condobolin. Another brother was W. L. Whiley, of Queensland, and a sister was Mrs. E. Martin, of Melbourne but who has been for some time living in Condobolin with Mrs. Bright. She happened to be on a visit to Melbourne and saw her brother during his last illness and was present at his death.7
